The European Parliament offers a comprehensive traineeship program with two main branches: the Schuman Traineeships in the Secretariat and the Traineeships with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). Named after Robert Schuman, a pioneer of European integration, the Schuman Traineeships provide a unique opportunity to learn about EU governance and policy-making. These paid traineeships can be pursued at European Parliament offices in Brussels, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, and in Liaison Offices across Member States.
Open to candidates from various educational backgrounds, the Schuman Traineeships cover fields such as EU policies, law, finance, communication, IT, and administration. The European Parliament promotes inclusivity and welcomes applications from individuals of all genders, sexual orientations, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and those with disabilities. Accommodations are available for successful candidates with disabilities.
The program honors the legacy of Jรกn Kuciak, a dedicated Slovak investigative journalist, through specific Schuman traineeships offered by the Directorate-General for Communication. Applicants must meet certain criteria, including age requirements, nationality within the EU or candidate countries, possession of a university-level diploma, and proficiency in at least one official EU language with a good grasp of a second language.
The program includes the Positive Action Scheme, which supports the inclusion of individuals with disabilities. Successful candidates under this scheme may receive additional financial support for related expenses. The Schuman Recruitment and Development Programme offers a pathway for outstanding trainees to transition into roles within the European Parliament, subject to the successful completion of their traineeship and assessment tests.
