About the New Africa Fund
The New Africa Fund (NAF) is a US-based 501(c)(3) public charity founded in 2021 by two former Peace Corps Volunteers. Its mission is to support grassroots initiatives across Africa and drive sustainable change. Originally focused on projects in Togo, NAF has since expanded its reach to work with partners and grantees in more than a dozen African countries, with plans for continued growth. By collaborating closely with local organizations, NAF stays connected with community leaders who have firsthand knowledge of the challenges their communities face.
NAF aims to reshape the traditional donor-recipient dynamic, which has often been limited to rigid, project-based funding. Instead, it prioritizes unrestricted funding, giving organizations the flexibility to respond to evolving community needs. Many promising initiatives struggle due to restrictive funding models, and NAF’s approach ensures they have the resources to grow and achieve long-term impact.
Grants are awarded through a competitive application process to NGOs, community-based organizations (CBOs), and social enterprises working in diverse fields. Rather than viewing grantees solely as project implementers, NAF evaluates them holistically, considering their mission, vision, and track record.
NAF seeks to invest in local leaders with innovative solutions to pressing challenges—those with a strong vision for change but limited access to sustainable funding. Through its flexible funding model, NAF empowers organizations to make a meaningful and lasting impact in their communities.
