The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is India’s premier organization for the formulation, coordination, and promotion of biomedical research. Established in 1911, ICMR has been instrumental in addressing national health priorities through its extensive network of research institutes and centers across the country. Collaborating with the Department of Health Research (DHR), ICMR aims to foster international partnerships and enhance the global competence of Indian biomedical scientists.

The ICMR-DHR International Fellowship Programme is designed to provide Indian biomedical scientists with the opportunity to gain exposure to the latest advancements in their fields by training at renowned international institutions. The program supports both short-term and long-term fellowships, enabling participants to acquire new research methodologies, establish collaborations, and contribute to the advancement of biomedical sciences in India.

Benefits:

  • US $3,000 per month to cover accommodation and other expenses.
  • Return economy class airfare through authorized travel agents.
  • Up to ₹75,000 for visa fees, local travel, and other expenses.
  • Up to ₹20,000 for overseas mediclaim insurance.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with international experts and institutions.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be an Indian citizen.
  • Possess M.D./M.S./Ph.D. or equivalent degrees in health/biomedical research.
  • Experience:
    • Short-term Fellowship (15 days to 3 months): Minimum of 10 years of teaching/research experience.
    • Long-term Fellowship (6 to 12 months): Minimum of 3 years of teaching/research experience.
  • Below 45 years as of the application deadline.
  • Must be employed in a recognized Indian institution.
  • Should not have availed any similar fellowship from the Government of India/State Governments in the last 3 years.

Application Process

  1. Prepare Documents:
    • Detailed plan of proposed training.
    • Letter of acceptance from the host international institution.
    • Forwarding letter from the employer/head of the institution.
    • Recognition letter from AICTE (for candidates from private institutions).
  2. Submit Application:
    • Applications must be submitted in the prescribed format.
    • Ensure all documents are complete and submitted before the deadline.
  3. Deadline: June 30, 2025.
