Program Overview!
The Rainforest Reporting Grant is an initiative by the Pulitzer Center aimed at supporting independent journalism that sheds light on underreported issues affecting tropical rainforests. Building upon the success of the Rainforest Journalism Fund (RJF) launched in 2018, this grant seeks to fund ambitious, collaborative, and innovative reporting projects that explore the complex dynamics of rainforest ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.

Application Process
- Prepare Your Proposal: Develop a detailed project proposal outlining the story idea, its significance, methodology, and a comprehensive budget plan.
- Submit Application: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until December 2027. Submit your proposal through the Pulitzer Center’s online application system.
- Review Process: Applications are reviewed by editors with expertise in the relevant regions and issues. Successful applicants will be notified and provided with further instructions.
- Grant Agreement: Upon approval, specific grant terms will be negotiated, and a formal agreement will be established.
- Reporting and Publication: Grantees will conduct their reporting projects and are encouraged to publish their work through various media outlets, with support from the Pulitzer Center.
About Rainforest Reporting Grant!
Rainforests are vital to global biodiversity, climate regulation, and the livelihoods of Indigenous populations. Despite their importance, these ecosystems face numerous threats, including deforestation, illegal mining, wildlife trafficking, and climate change. The Rainforest Reporting Grant is designed to empower journalists to investigate these pressing issues, providing them with the necessary resources to produce in-depth and impactful stories.
The grant supports costs associated with reporting projects, such as travel expenses, fees for local reporting partners, translation services, and other related costs. While most grants range from $8,000 to $15,000, proposals with justified higher expenses, such as those requiring specialized technology or consultancy, may receive additional funding.
